This GME Week, Residency Program Director Thomas J. Cummings, MD, has been celebrating our phenomenal residents and fellows. On Feb. 16^th, a group of Pathology residents and fellows stormed the Carolina Hurricanes game as they defeated the Montreal Canadiens 6-2

Pathology resident Bangchen Wang, MD PhD, PGY-3, has won the First Prize for Excellence in Uropathology Research from the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS). He submitted an abstract to the USCAP Annual Meeting 2023, which will take place in New Orleans, LA, in March.

On Nov. 28^th, Thomas J. Cummings, MD, Professor of Pathology and Ophthalmology, and Residency Program Director, presented a lecture at the American Association of Neuropathologists (AANP) Teaching Rounds titled “The Pathology of Glaucoma.”  AANP Teaching Rounds is a monthly scheduled education series covering the spectrum of neuropathology.

In August 2022, Chief Resident Meg Lee, MD, PGY-3, received the Foundation of the American Society of Cytopathology (ASC) Resident and Fellow Travel Scholarship for the American Society of Cytopathology/International Congress of Cytology Scientific Meeting from Nov. 15-20, 2022. This highly competitive award provides significant support to attend the meeting.

Thomas J. Cummings, MD, Professor of Pathology and Residency Program Director, spoke at the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) annual meeting held in Chicago on Sept. 7^th. Cummings was an invited speaker and panelist for the session: 21^st Century Cures Act: Role of Pathologists and Laboratorians in Empowering our Patients.

Thomas J. Cummings, MD, Professor of Pathology and Residency Program Director, has advanced from Member-at-Large to Secretary-Elect of the Association of Pathology Chairs Residency Program Directors Council (APC-PRODS).

“It is a great honor to serve and to contribute to the mission of APC-PRODS,” Cummings said.
