Clinical Informatics Fellow Richard C. Davis, MD, MSPH, PGY-6, presented a poster at the Pathology Informatics Summit in Ann Arbor, Michigan, from May 20-23, 2024.
Titled “Conversion of Legacy Laboratory Information System (LIS) Cases into Beaker AP Cases,” his poster detailed the Duke LIS team's construction of Epic Beaker case records for their legacy LIS surgical pathology cases from 2002-2014. Epic Beaker is a type of LIS created to streamline lab processes in healthcare organizations by helping to manage lab workflows, specimen tracking, and data integration. With Davis’ help, the LIS team converted 530,000 cases into Beaker cases, which are now available for use in Beaker.
In 2023, Davis received Duke’s William D. Bradford Teaching Award, which recognizes a Pathology resident or fellow who, in the opinion of the Pathology residents, has demonstrated exceptional teaching effort and ability.
