On August 25, 2026, Duke University Professor of Pathology Andrea Deyrup, MD, PhD, presented an international webinar hosted by Elsevier, publisher of the Robbins pathology textbooks, titled “Una Nueva Forma de Ver: Robbins para Todos, La Undécima Edición de Patología Estructural y Funcional” ("A New Way of Seeing: Robbins for Everyone, the 11th Edition of Robbins Pathologic Basis of Disease").
The webinar marked Deyrup's first presentation delivered entirely in Spanish and attracted more than 250 registrants, including medical students, pathology residents, faculty members, and practicing pathologists from Latin America, India, Slovenia, the United States, and Spain.
During the presentation, Deyrup examined the scientific inaccuracies underlying race-based medicine and discussed how her scholarship helped reshape the way disease associations are presented in the latest editions of the Robbins family of textbooks.
Deyrup is a nationally recognized speaker and author of the New England Journal of Medicine perspective article, "Racial Biology and Medical Misconceptions." Her work has contributed to broader conversations within medicine about the appropriate use of race in diagnosis, research, and medical education. Her work also addresses the challenges educators face when teaching complex and evolving topics, emphasizing that discomfort and uncertainty can be an important component of professional growth and responsibility.
