Duke Pathology fourth-year resident Bangchen Wang, MD, PhD, received a $1,000 Pathologist-in-Training Travel Award for his abstract (supervised by David Howell, MD, PhD) submitted to the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP). He will present his work at the USCAP 2024 Annual Meeting from March 23-28, 2024, in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Matthew Kuhar, chair of the USCAP Resident Advisory Committee, nominated Wang.
Wang is also invited to attend the Foundation Reception to meet the Foundation Committee members, other travel award recipients, and major donors to the Foundation.
Wang has received wide recognition of excellent work:
- In November 2023, he presented at the American Society of Nephrology (ASN) Kidney Week meeting, where he won two accolades. He garnered the Renal Pathology Society’s Liliane Striker Young Investigator Award for his work (sponsored by David Howell, MD, PhD); and received an invitation from Dr. Sharon Adler, Editor-in-Chief of the journal Glomerular Diseases, to submit a manuscript based on his findings.
- In June 2023, he received The Fred and Janet Sanfilippo Resident Research Award, which recognizes the Pathology resident or fellow who has demonstrated exceptional research effort and ability, either from a basic science or clinical research-related project or publication. Recipients are chosen by votes from residents, fellows and faculty.
- In March 2023, he won the First Prize for Excellence in Uropathology Research from the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS) for the abstract he submitted to the USCAP Annual Meeting 2023 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
The largest gathering of pathologists in the world, USCAP’s Annual Meeting showcases groundbreaking research and features world-renowned pathology experts. Keynote speakers in 2024 include Julia A. Bridge, MD, who will deliver a lecture titled “Integration of Molecular Testing in Pathology Practice: Embracing the Choices;” and Eric Green, MD, PhD, who will give a talk titled “Creating the Fourth Chapter of Human Genomics.”
