PhD Candidates Receive Lab Coats at Ceremony

On Dec. 5, 2024, the Graduate Program in Pathobiology and Translational Biosciences recognized PhD candidates who have passed their preliminary exams with a Lab Coat Ceremony.

This annual tradition was started in 2022 and recognizes the passing of a preliminary milestone for PhD candidates. It celebrates their accomplishments and encourages them as they continue their research and move towards the defense of their thesis projects.

Johnston-West Endowed Chair of Pathology Jiaoti Huang, MD, PhD,  gave remarks before the ceremony, and Professor of Pathology Herman Staats, PhD, helped distribute the lab coats. PhD students Brittany Thomas and John Bradley “JB” Cart helped with the presentation.

All students who had passed the preliminary exam before December 2024 were eligible to receive a monogrammed Department of Pathology lab coat, which was officially given by each of their mentors at the ceremony. The brief ceremony was followed by a reception with refreshments.
