Wen Shuai, MD, MS, has been promoted to Associate Medical Director for Flow Cytometry. Shuai joined Duke Pathology in August 2021, and is part of our Hematopathology and Molecular Pathology teams. Before coming to Duke, she completed fellowships in both hematopathology and molecular genetics at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. While there, she received extensive training in flow cytometry and worked on a quality improvement project that resulted in an estimated annual cost saving of approximately $98,000.
“We are excited about her ongoing interest in the flow cytometry lab and look forward to seeing her ideas and seeing her continued growth within the clinical labs,” said Diana Cardona, MD, Director, DUHS Anatomic Pathology Labs, and Anand Lagoo, MD, PhD, Medical Director, Clinical Flow Cytometry.
Dr. Shuai obtained her MD degree from Hunan Medical University in China, and also served as a resident physician in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in one of the affiliated hospitals. After coming to the United States, Shuai obtained an MS in computer science, and worked as a research assistant at Vanderbilt University.
Shuai began her training in pathology as an AP/CP resident at the University of Miami, and after transferring, she completed her residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Houston.
In addition to her new role as Associate Medical Director for Flow Cytometry, Shuai serves as an Assistant Professor in Duke’s Hematopathology Division, and as faculty in our Molecular Diagnostics Laboratory.
