On Jan. 1, 2026, Assistant Professor of Pathology Jeffrey L. Arnold, MD, was named section chief of Duke’s Head, Neck, and Endocrine Pathology Division.
“Dr. Arnold has provided outstanding clinical care and education of colleagues and house staff, while covering both the Head, Neck, and Endocrine Pathology and the Cytopathology services,” said Associate Director of Surgical Pathology Wen-Chi Foo, MD. “He is succeeding Danielle Elliott Range, MD, vice chair, medical director and chief of the Division of Cytopathology, who has provided outstanding interim leadership in this role. Please join us in thanking Dr. Range for her service and in congratulating Dr. Arnold.”
Arnold serves as the director of two medical school courses that introduce second and fourth-year Duke medical students to the field of pathology. His academic interests include undergraduate and graduate medical education, fine needle aspiration cytology, and head and neck pathology.
Before joining Duke in 2024, Arnold was at Tufts Medical Center in Boston for seven and half years where he balanced clinical and administrative duties as medical director of the Cytology Laboratory and director of the Immunohistochemistry Laboratory. He also taught as the Pathology content director.
He has been a member of the American Society for Cytopathology since 2017 and the College of American Pathologists since 2010.
