The Division of Head, Neck, and Endocrine Pathology provides diagnostic expertise and research on tumors and non-neoplastic conditions.

Our pathologists work with our multidisciplinary care teams to provide comprehensive care for our patients with head and neck cancers and thyroid and other endocrine tumors. The group advances knowledge with collaborative research to optimize diagnostic and prognostic information for patient care.

 

Faculty

Xiaoyin “Sara” Jiang, MD, is Division Director and board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology. Her areas of research and expertise are cytopathology and surgical pathology of the head and neck and endocrine systems, with particular interest in thyroid nodules, ultrasound-guided FNA, and novel applications of social media for medical professionals.

Jeffrey Arnold, MD, joined Duke Pathology’s diagnostic faculty in January 2024 as an assistant professor. He primarily serves in Cytopathology and Head, Neck, and Endocrine Pathology.

John Madden, MD, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Pathology with interests and expertise in head/neck and endocrine pathology and genitourinary pathology.

Danielle Range, MDhas spent almost 20 years in the education, research and practice of cytopathology. She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology. Since joining Duke in 2015, Range has held leadership positions in clinical service, education, and administration. She currently serves on the Private Diagnostic Clinic’s Board of Managers and is chair of the Cytopathology Fellowship Clinical Competency Committee.
