Ken H. Young, MD, PhD, Duke Hematopathology director, was invited to speak at the 77th Annual Pathology Meeting and the 2nd International Congress of the Korean Society of Pathologists (KSP), in Seoul, Korea, on Oct. 30, 2025. Young’s keynote lecture was titled “Next Generation of Biomarkers in Diagnosis and Classification of Hematologic Malignancy,” in which he discussed new strategies to understand and diagnose blood cancers using advanced pathologic markers as tools that could lead to the development of novel diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for patients.
Jason L. Hornick, MD, PhD, surgical pathology director at Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), also delivered a keynote lecture titled “Next Generation of Immunohistochemistry in Diagnosis of Soft Tissue and Bone Tumors.” Hornick serves as 2025 United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) president and as endowed cancer chair at Mass General BWH.
Both presentations provided the pathology community with recent advances and new perspectives of diagnostic biomarkers and their use for therapeutic interventions. Much of Young’s and Hornick’s research has been published this year in The American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Cancer Treatment Review, Blood Advance, and Blood Cancer Journal.
The Young team’s primary interest is the study of lymphoma, myeloma, and other lymphoproliferative disorders. The pathology team focuses on identification of specific biomarkers and molecular mechanisms for accurate diagnosis, sub-classification, prognostic prediction, and therapeutic targets in hematologic neoplasms and diseases.
