On Oct. 8th, 2024, Beth Shaz, MD, MBA, participated in a panel discussion titled “The Power of a Peer Support Team” as part of the Wake Forest School of Medicine and Atrium Health inaugural Rising Stars Leadership Program. Panelists were invited by their Learning Community Advisor, Julie Freischlag, MD, chief executive officer and chief academic officer of Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, chief academic officer and executive vice president of Advocate Health, and executive vice president for health affairs at Wake Forest University. “It was great to share our experience and set the stage for success and what to expect from a learning community,” said Shaz. “Some major points are to share your stories, listen to others, stay curious, remember that success is not a fixed definition, and value the importance of relationships.”
Shaz was joined on the panel by Zarine Shah, MD, Erin Shaughnessy, MD, MSHCM, and Lucy Spalluto, MD, MPH. President of Atrium Health David Zaas, MD, MBA, and Dean of Wake Forest School of Medicine Ebony Boulware, MD, MPH, gave opening remarks for the event.
Other panels during the half-day event included discussions about adaptive leadership skills, managing difficult conversations, and the imposter syndrome.
