On October 22, 2025, Associate Professor of Pathology Carlos Prieto Granada, MD, gave a presentation at the XLIV Symposium of the International Society of Dermatopathology (ISDP) in Cape Town, South Africa. In a slide seminar section of the meeting, he gave a talk on primary cutaneous signet-ring/histiocytoid carcinoma of the eyelid, a rare type of eyelid cancer known for its unusual cell shape.
The ISDP serves to advance knowledge of how the skin functions and the diseases that affect it. This educational event provided an exceptional opportunity for academic exchange, learning, reconnecting with colleagues and mentors, and building new collaborations with experts in the field from across the country and around the world.
Prieto Granada joined Duke Pathology’s Dermatopathology and Soft Tissue and Bone Pathology divisions in April, 2025. His interests include neoplastic pathology within dermatopathology (melanocytic and skin adnexal neoplasms); soft tissue pathology (nerve sheath tumors); and non-neoplastic pathology, such as the histopathology of infections.
He has published more than 40 peer-reviewed manuscripts; over 15 book chapters, review articles, and online resources; and multiple abstracts. He is the section editor for the Dermatopathology and Pulmonary/Thoracic Pathology of Human Pathology Reports Journal and is part of the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology USCAP) Dermatopathology Abstract Review Committee.
