Associate Professor Danielle Maracaja, MD, was the senior author of four cases presented at the Society for Hematopathology (SH) and European Association for Hematopathology (EA4HP) Annual Meeting and 2025 SH/EA4HP Workshop Sept 4-6, in Cincinnati, Ohio. The workshop theme was centered on blood-related cancers and other unusual blood conditions that affect children, adolescents, and young adults.
Grant Kozeny, MD, a third-year pathology resident at Wake Forest University, gave an oral presentation of one of Maracaja’s cases, “Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia in a Pediatric Down Syndrome Case.”
Maracaja’s other three cases were presented by the session chairs:
- Childhood Myelodysplastic Neoplasm with Complex Karyotype and Molecular Abnormalities
- B-Lymphoblastic Leukemia with P2RY8: CRLF2 Gene Fusion in a Patient with Down Syndrome
- T-Lymphoblastic Lymphoma in a Patient with Ring Chromosome 14 Syndrome
Maracaja joined Duke Pathology’s Hematopathology Division on Sept. 1, 2025. She is a board-certified anatomic and clinical pathologist whose research focuses on the morphologic assessment of hematologic diseases. She has a special interest in translational studies involving novel markers and in the investigation of reactive or neoplastic conditions in bone marrow pathology.
Maracaja is chair of the Society for Hematopathology’s Communication Committee. She is also part of the Hematology and Clinical Microscopy Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP); the Resident Advisory Subcommittee at United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP); and the USCAP Hematopathology Abstract Review Board.
