Michelle Schneider, MB, BCh, BAO, has assumed the role of Director of the Pathology Post-Sophomore Fellowship, and is excited to nurture a passion for Pathology in our Duke medical students for years to come.
Schneider returned to the Pathology Department in Fall 2021 as part of our Dermatopathology Diagnostic team. Her previous experience at Duke included fellowships in both Dermatopathology and Surgical Pathology. She spent five years preceding her return to Duke serving as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Dermatopathology at the University of Calgary, Canada.
For the 2022-2023 academic year, the Department welcomes our new Post-Sophomore Fellow, Alyssa Cozzo, PhD, to the program. After receiving her BSc in Nutritional Sciences: Physiology and Metabolism from the University of California, Berkeley, she completed her PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Prior to entering the Duke School of Medicine, Cozzo worked for a year as a postdoctoral research associate investigating approaches for targeted disruption of select metabolic pathways to improve the efficacy of existing chemotherapies used in the treatment of primary and metastatic triple-negative breast cancers. Her research interests include cancer metabolism, tumor immunology and immunotherapies, and microenvironments of primary versus metastatic tumors, amongst others.
Cozzo is strongly considering a career in Pathology with its unique ability to bridge the gap between high-level patient care, translational research, therapeutic oncologic advancements, and ongoing education of future generations of medical trainees.
“We look forward to immersing her into our daily practice over the next year and fostering her interest in our incredible field,” said Schneider.
