Dr. Wei Chen Named as Surgical Pathology GI Fellowship Director

On Aug. 1, 2025, Assistant Professor Wei Chen, MD, was named as director of Duke’s Surgical Pathology Gastrointestinal (GI) Fellowship program. She assumed the position from Associate Professor William Jeck, MD, PhD, who has served in the role since July 2022.

"Dr. Chen has proven leadership in our GI division, mentoring many of our residents, including some future GI fellows, both in research projects and at the scope,” said Jeck. “Her dedication and expertise will be a great asset, and I expect our fellows will thrive under her guidance."

“I’m thankful for all the work Dr. Jeck has done in leading the GI Pathology Fellowship!” said Chen. “I’m honored to take on the directorship of the fellowship, and I'm excited to continue building on the strong foundation he established.”

Chen joined Duke’s faculty in August 2021, and practices primarily in GI and liver pathology. She obtained her MD degree from Zhejiang University School of Medicine in China, then completed an internal medicine residency and medical oncology fellowship at Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital of Zhejiang University. 

She came to the United States for Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) residency training in pathology at Case Western Reserve University Hospital in Cleveland. She then completed a fellowship in surgical pathology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, and a GI pathology fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh.
