
Duke Pathology had a strong presence at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology (USCAP) 114th Annual Meeting, “See the Light,” from March 22-27 in Boston, Mass. Faculty members and residents gave talks, presented posters, and received awards, showcasing the latest research and clinical advancements in pathology. Plus, the department hosted a reception on Sunday evening at Omni Boston at the Seaport.

Talks
Thomas J. Cummings, MD, professor of Pathology and Ophthalmology and Residency Program director, was chair of the American Association of Ophthalmic Oncologists and Pathologists session. He moderated “Orbiting Around the Eye: Approaches to Orbital Lesions.”
Carolyn Glass, MD, PhD, associate professor of Pathology and Division Chief of Duke Cardiovascular Pathology Service gave a talk titled “Frontiers in Cardiovascular Pathology: New Approaches to Diagnostic Problems” as part of the Cardiovascular Pathology Evening Specialty Conference.
Awards

Carolyn Glass, MD, PhD, associate professor of Pathology, was the recipient of the 2025 Margaret Billingham Award for the most important original paper published in the Society of Cardiovascular Pathology’s journal. The award is given in memory of the cardiac transplant pioneer Dr. Billingham from Stanford, best remembered for developing the Billingham Criteria for the grading of heart transplant rejection.
Grace Kwon, MD, PhD, PGY3, received a Pathologist-in-Training Travel Award from USCAP as well as a Trainee Abstract Award from the Korean Pathologists Association of North America (KOPANA).
