Dr. Ran Zhuo Joins Faculty

On August 1, 2025, Ran Zhuo, PhD, joined Duke Pathology as an assistant professor and section director of Mycobacteriology, Serology, Parasitology, and Send-Out Testing in the Duke Clinical Microbiology Laboratory.

She earned her PhD in molecular biology and genetics from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Canada. Before joining Duke, she served as a research specialist at the Alberta Provincial Public Health Laboratory (now Alberta Precision Laboratories) and as a senior microbiologist at the Center for Disease Control. She completed her fellowship in the Medical and Public Health Laboratory Microbiology at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2025.

Her research centers on diagnostic test validation, comparative assay studies, novel detection method development, and optimization of existing assays to improve the identification of emerging pathogens.

Zhuo has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and serves as an ad hoc reviewer for journals including Drugs in Context, Viruses, Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE, and several BMC journals.
