On July 1, 2025, Associate Professor Jessica L Poisson, MD, MMCi, was appointed as medical director of Clinical Pathology Informatics.
She has been a member of the Duke faculty for 10 years, is associate medical director of Transfusion Services, and is director of Patient Blood Management for Duke Health. Poisson also serves as the champion for Transfusion Information Technology initiatives. Her research is focused on novel blood components and improved data sharing in transfusion medicine.
“In moving into this new role with DHTS and the Laboratory Information Systems team, I’m excited to work more broadly with the clinical laboratories in meeting their IT and data needs,” said Poisson. “One area of particular interest is data management and enhanced analytics for improved operations and patient care.”
Originally from Texas, she earned her BS in Biology at the University of Texas at Austin and her MD from UT Southwestern Medical School. She completed her Anatomic Pathology/Clinical Pathology residency at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, completed Transfusion Medicine fellowship at Puget Sound Blood Center (now Bloodworks Northwest) in Seattle, Washington, and received her Master in Management and Clinical Informatics (MMCi) at Duke in 2016.
