On Feb. 11, 2026, Duke University Professor of Pathology Andrea Deyrup, MD, PhD, partnered with Kenechukwu Ojukwu, MD, MPP, MS (Educators 2024); Cecilia Rugamas, MSPH from the University of California, Los Angeles; and Theresa Nguyen, PhD, PMHNP-BC, from the University of San Diego Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science, to present a workshop at the Innovations in Medical Education Conference, hosted by the University of Southern California.
Their workshop combined a discussion of the Recognize, Analyze, Commit, Empower Framework developed by Shereen Daniels, DProf, Public Works, to facilitate discussions and advocacy in complex situations.
Deyrup is a nationally-renowned speaker and author of “Racial Biology and Medical Misconceptions,” published in the New England Journal of Medicine. During the workshop, Deyrup focused on the emotional experience of engaging with challenging material to help educators recognize that feelings of discomfort and uncertainty are part of professional responsibility.
