 
Thomas J. Cummings, MD, professor of Pathology and Ophthalmology and Residency Program director, lectured at the Eastern Ophthalmic Pathology Society (EOPS) annual meeting held at University of California, Irvine, from Sept 25th-27th, 2025. Cummings spoke about rare growths in the eye called glomuvenous malformations and glomus tumors, which can affect vision and eye health.
 
Since 2002, Cummings has been a member of EOPS, an international society of ophthalmic pathologists comprising members from the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Asia, South America, and the Middle East.
Cummings accepted the nomination to host the EOPS meeting at Duke in 2027. This will be the third international Ophthalmic Pathology Society conference he has hosted at Duke. In 2008, he hosted the Combined Ophthalmic Pathology Society Conference and in 2019, the Verhoeff-Zimmerman Ophthalmic Pathology Society Conference.
