Dr. Giselle López Leads Community-Building Session for Underrepresented Faculty

On March 18th, Associate Professor of Pathology Giselle López, MD, PhD, moderated a Community Building Session for Underrepresented Racial and Ethnic Faculty (UREF) at the Trent Semans Center for Health Education.

The session followed a successful meeting at the fall 2023 New Faculty Orientation, and offered an opportunity for group discussion and networking with peers.

Session Goals:

  • Allow attendees to get to know and network with fellow new UREF across the Duke School of Medicine
  • Facilitate community building through shared experiences
  • Facilitate peer mentoring on common career challenges

"I really enjoyed meeting the new young faculty on campus and hearing from the experiences of the more senior professors who generously shared their time to mentor and provide guidance."

Any faculty member, trainee, or student in the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, of any race or gender who supports the goals of the session was invited to attend.  Underrepresented racial and ethnic faculty hired in the last three years were especially encouraged to attend. Learn more here.
