Dr. Ken H. Young Lectures on New Therapeutically Actionable Pathways at Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma Workshop

By Jamie Botta

On Oct. 1, 2023, Ken H. Young, MD, PhD, delivered an invited lecture at the 20th International Workshop on Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma (iwNHL) 2023 in Miami, FL, titled “Genomic Alterations in Lymphoma - New Relevant Pathways and Therapeutic Targets.”  He also participated in an interactive debate and panel discussions.

Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a serious condition that increases vulnerability to life-threatening infections, other kinds of cancer, or heart disease. Young presented and discussed therapeutically actionable pathways in lymphoma derived from the tumor cells or the tumor microenvironment. The audience showed strong interest in the therapeutic strategies that he presented, and asked further questions including novel small molecules and monoclonal antibody drugs targeting the p53 tumor suppressor pathway - a complex cellular stress response network that controls cellular responses to potentially oncogenic stimuli. The p53 pathway is one of two pivotal tumor suppressor pathways, and the p53 protein combats the initial formation of tumors in the body.

The workshop organizers included the International Workshop on Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Columbia University, and World Health Communications, who invited 50 world-known investigators and targeted or immunotherapy clinical trial leaders to present and participate in roundtable discussions on eight frontier scientific topics. The Video Journal for Hematology and Hematological Oncology (VJHemOnc) was the official media partner.
