Dr. Jiaoti Huang Receives Atrium Health Award for Contributions to Pathology Field

On September 27th, 2023, Pathology Department Chair Jiaoti Huang, MD, PhD, received the inaugural Abbott Julian Garvin Lectureship Award from Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center’s Department of Pathology. The award was established to recognize individuals for their outstanding contributions to the field of Pathology and their support of the mission to educate and train future pathologists.

Dr. Abbott Julian Garvin served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Pathology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine for seventeen years. He was also director of the Pathology Residency Training Program, deputy director, and interim director of the Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Huang delivered a lecture titled “Cellular Heterogeneity of Prostate Cancer Contributes to Therapy Failure and Disease Progression,” in which he discussed his lab’s research over the past twenty years to understand fundamental molecular mechanisms and discover novel therapy targets. His lecture was followed by an unknown slide session where he shared several interesting and challenging cases of prostate and bladder tumors.
