Professor of Pathology and Residency Program Director Thomas J. Cummings, MD, gave the opening introduction for the Residency Program Directors Section (PRODS) of the Association of Academic Pathology (AAPath) Spring Virtual Meeting on April 23, 2026. The event, organized by the PRODS Section Council, is for PRODS members.
Topics covered included:
- Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) tips for new program directors
- Information every new program director needs to know from the American Board of Pathology
- Artificial intelligence and digital pathology
- Guidance on managing difficult situations
There were also breakout room sessions for small group discussions on priority topics.
Cummings will continue to serve the AAPath PRODS Council as immediate past chair and chair of the PRODS Nominating Committee for its 2026 annual meeting to be held in Boston, Massachusetts, in July.
AAPath-PRODS provides a forum for the exchange of information and ideas; makes recommendations concerning rules governing content and management of resident training to the Residency Review Committee and American Board of Pathology; and participates in programs that facilitate the continued development and enhancement of pathology training programs.
