Duke Pathology is pleased to welcome Katya Dombrowski, MD, who joined the faculty on Sept. 1, 2026.
Dombrowski was raised in Glen Ridge, New Jersey, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Princeton University. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine in the Bronx, New York.
She completed anatomic and clinical pathology residency training at Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, where she also served as chief resident. Following residency, Dombrowski completed a surgical pathology assistant year at Johns Hopkins Medicine before pursuing a fellowship in thoracic pathology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
During her fellowship training, Dombrowski's research focused primarily on carcinoid and other neuroendocrine neoplasms of the lung, including neuroendocrine carcinomas.
"We are delighted to welcome Dr. Dombrowski to Duke Pathology," said Professor Elizabeth Pavlisko, MD. "Her advanced training in thoracic pathology, commitment to education, and research experience will strengthen our department's missions in patient care, research, and training."
Dombrowski is looking forward to beginning the next chapter of her career at Duke and exploring her new home state.
"As someone new to the area, I enjoy getting to know North Carolina and spending time with my husband, dog, and cat when I'm not at work," she said.
