By Jamie Botta

On March 28, 2023, Pathology Chair Jiaoti Huang, MD, PhD, a surgical pathologist with a clinical and research focus on prostate cancer, gave the inaugural Dr. Anthony and Helen Torre Endowed Lecture at East Virginia Medical School (EVMS).

The Dr. Anthony and Helen Torre Endowed Lecture was established by a generous gift from their children to honor Torre and his long, successful career. All five of them are also physicians, four of whom are EVMS alumni.

The annual lecture brings esteemed faculty and physician leaders to the EVMS campus and provides EVMS and others in the medical community with an opportunity to learn about new and innovative approaches in the field of oncology. It emphasizes core cancer-related disciplines that include, but are not be limited to, medical oncology, radiation oncology, and surgical oncology.

Following the talk, Huang hosted a round table discussion with scientists and clinicians to discuss a wide range of topics of common interests in the area of prostate cancer including diagnosis, imaging, biomarkers and novel therapies.
