PGY-4 resident physician Jusmita Saifullan, MD, recent Pathologists' Assistant Program graduate Aisha Cato, MHS, PA, and Associate Pathology Professor Sergio Piña-Oviedo, MD, have published an entry on pulmonary intravascular large B-cell lymphoma on PathologyOutlines.com.
Intravascular large B-cell lymphoma is a rare and aggressive subtype of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) with a predilection for intravascular spaces and can present as a diagnostic challenge due to its absence of mass-forming lesions, few to no circulating lymphomas and clinically non-specific patient presentations. An official diagnosis is often delayed and made on postmortem examination. It is an important entity to have in mind, as timely detection may improve survival via treatment with Rituximab (R-CHOP) therapy ̶ a combination treatment primarily used for DLBCL.
