Hometown: Steilacoom, WA
College: University of Washington - Seattle
Fellowship Plans: Undecided, but I like molecular
Career Goals: I want to apply spatial transcriptomics to solid organs to better classify tumors in an academic setting
Hobbies and Interests: Birdwatching, coffee roasting, sourdough, Magic the Gathering Commander, Mariners baseball, Emacs, board games
Why Duke: Duke has it all, excellent AP/CP training, majority subspecialty sign-out with exposure to general sign-out through the VA, and mechanisms in place to incorporate as much research as you would like into your training. I was struck by how happy, kind and impressive the residents I met were.
Why Durham: I am convinced there's nowhere else in the country where you have access to excellent medical training, research, and can still afford to live somewhere spacious with nature all around you. The Triangle has everything I've wanted to do locally between Durham, Raleigh, and Chapel Hill, and there is still so much more to explore.
