Why Duke: Interview day with faculty was personable and laid-back. The residents seemed to be pleased and well-supported. The neuropathology program is sizable and staffed with diverse expertise, and the hospital autopsy program is well-developed and integrated into the health system. 
Why Durham: Durham is a Goldilocks city to me. It is large and close enough to the amenities I want but small and distant enough to avoid the congestion of major cities. Sprinkle in the natural beauty of North Carolina and a good college rivalry for entertainment, and there isn't much more to ask for.
