Hometown: Logan, Utah
College: Utah State University
Medical School: University of Florida College of Medicine
Fellowship Plans: Undecided but currently interested in GU pathology, clinical chemistry, and microbiology.
Career Goals: Undecided, but leaning toward academics so that I can continue doing research in medical education and working with students and residents.
Hobbies and Interests: I enjoy hiking with my dog, playing board games with friends, watching horror movies, trying new vegan restaurants, playing the piano, keeping my houseplants alive, and re-reading The Lord of the Rings.
Why Duke: Duke made a fantastic impression on me during the interview day. Everyone from the PD to the interviewers to the residents were so kind and collegial, and the faculty seemed really motivated to help tailor my education toward my desired future career. Aside from the amazing surgical pathology training, Duke is also strong in clinical pathology and I was excited about the opportunities to be involved in laboratory management. The campus is beautiful, and most importantly - there are windows in the resident workrooms!
Why Durham: Durham is a nice medium-sized city within driveable distance to big cities, beaches, and mountains. After dealing with sub-zero Utah winters and humid Floridian summers, I'm looking forward to the much milder climate of North Carolina and being able to enjoy all four seasons.
