Spencer Hauck PhD, and Lingfan Xu PhD, both postdoctoral fellows in Dr. Jiaoti Huang’s research laboratory, have been awarded the Department of Defense Prostate Cancer Research Program’s 2020 Early Investigator Research Award.
Spencer studies the molecular mechanisms by which Heat Shock Factor 1, a transcription factor, promotes aggressive prostate cancer which may be targeted for the treatment of therapy-resistant prostate cancer. Lingfan’s project examines how glutamine, a non-essential amino acid, becomes critical to prostate cancer cells and how this may be exploited as a novel therapeutic target.
