Range appointed Vice Chair, Medical Director and Chief of the Division of Cytopathology

We are pleased to announce that Danielle Elliott Range, MD, has been appointed Vice Chair, Medical Director and Chief of the Division of Cytopathology.

Range has spent almost 20 years in the education, research and practice of cytopathology.  She is board certified in anatomic and clinical pathology and cytopathology.  She completed cytopathology fellowship training at MD Anderson Cancer Center where she remained on faculty specializing in head and neck and thyroid cytopathology.  She then spent several years in private practice where she helped establish a fine needle aspiration biopsy service to support oral/maxillofacial surgery, and served as medical director in surgical pathology and cytopathology.  In her roles she oversaw successful lab inspections, laboratory outreach, and the roll out of new cytopathology specimen processing to improve patient care.

Since joining Duke in 2015, Range has held leadership positions in clinical service, education, and administration.  She currently serves on the Private Diagnostic Clinic’s Board of Managers and is chair of the cytopathology fellowship clinical competency committee.  She is an active member of the American Society of Cytopathology and has served on its Research and Current Concepts Committee for the past five years.  Her research is dedicated to the intersection of cytopathology and artificial intelligence. Range is passionate about cytopathology and views the field as an ideal vehicle to aid in the delivery of prompt diagnoses and innovative ancillary testing.

Please join me in congratulating her on this important achievement. We would also like to thank Dr. Claudia Jones for leading an outstanding division of Cytopathology for many years
