Xiaoyin (Sara) Jiang, MD, FCAP, co-led the American Society of Clinical Pathology's (ASCP) inaugural Immersion Course Sept. 23rd-25th at ASCP's Arizona Center as a course faculty member.
Titled “Women Leaders in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine,” the curriculum aimed to empower participants to foster and develop female leaders in pathology and laboratory medicine. Topics included implicit bias, retention and promotion, resiliency, social media, and feedback.
Two other faculty co-led the course along with Jiang: Vivian Pinn, MD, Senior Scientist Emerita, FIC, NIH, Former Director (Retired), Office of Research on Women’s Health, NIH; and Dr. Lotte Mulder, PhD, Director of Leadership and Empowerment, ASCP.
Pinn is a trailblazer in pathology, being the first African American woman to chair a pathology department, as well as having served as the first full-time director of the Office of Research on Women’s Health at the National Institutes of Health, a role in which she was able to advocate for women's health and women in science.
“I was honored to be a part of this stellar group and have the opportunity to present,” said Jiang.
