Jessica Waibl Polania, third year doctoral student in the Pathology PhD Program, was awarded the Paul and Lauren Ghaffari Graduate Fellowship from the Duke Graduate School. The award, for doctoral students who are pursuing studies related to oncology, gives supplemental support of $5,000 for her research in 2021/22.
Originally from Columbus, Ohio, Jessica traveled east to Duke to join the Department of Pathology in the fall of 2018. Jessica works with Peter Fecci, MD PhD, Associate Professor of Neurosurgery, where she is working on a project titled, “Elucidating the origins and dynamics of T cell exhaustion in GBM.”
Jessica is the third Pathology graduate student to be awarded this prestigious fellowship in the last 4 years. Previous Fellowship recipients include William Butler and Karolina Woroniecka.
