Graduate student Yuanfan Yang, MD is using his voice to help the world health crisis, and had this letter published in the Journal of Neurosurgery. Dr. Yang explains:
“In March, I was asked by friends and colleagues in the US about the risks of COVID-19 infection as health care providers in the pandemic. People have heard of anecdotes from China that ENT doctors and ophthalmologists among the most vulnerable due to aerosol transmission in the clinic. At that time China is working very hard to practice the most strict social distancing while taking care of an overwhelming number of patients. Half of my medical school classmates and teachers were recruited to serve in the epicenter, Wuhan. So I helped convey their messages and inquiries on how to triage patients and prevent hospital infection, and joined a colleague in writing this letter to a professional society in the US. It is bit by bit that we raise the awareness in the society to stop the spreading of virus and win the battle against COVID-19. “
