Please join me in welcoming our newest member of the department faculty and laboratory director team- Stefan Rentas, PhD. Dr. Rentas received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences from McMaster University where he studied molecular pathways that regulate human hematopoietic stem cell self-renewal. He then pursued an ABMGG Laboratory Genetics and Genomics Fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. As a fellow, Dr. Rentas investigated the utility of RNA sequencing as a tool for diagnosing rare neurodevelopmental disorders. After completing fellowship training, he joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UNC Chapel Hill to perform clinical sign out of deleterious germline variants that were initially identified by research exome or genome sequencing. Now as a member of our department and the DUHS Clinical Laboratories, Dr. Rentas will be serving as an Assistant Director in the Division of Molecular Pathology, Genetics and Genomics, supporting the cytogenetics and molecular diagnostics laboratories.
Welcome to the department Dr. Rentas!
