Barisoni Receives R01 Grant

Laura Barisoni, MD, Professor of Pathology and Medicine, has been awarded a multiple investigator R01 grant by the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases for her research proposal “Computational Pathology of Proteinuric Diseases.”

This funding will support collaborative studies between Duke University, University of Pennsylvania, University of Michigan, and Case Western Reserve University, aiming to elucidate the kidney structure-function-molecular endophenotype continuum of glomerular diseases, such as minimal change disease and focal segmental glomerulosclerosis. Image analysis tools and machine learning models will be employed for kidney tissue interrogation on whole slide images and for integration of pathology, clinical and molecular data with the goal of enhancing our ability to better classify glomerular disease patients  and predict clinical outcomes.
