The Todd Brady and Andrea Darling Scholarship for 2021/22 has been awarded to Asjah Wallace, an incoming PhD student starting in the fall of 2021.
Asjah completed her BS in Biology in 2020 at Hampton University, [a Historically Black University (HBCU) located in Virginia], and has been studying this year as an NIH PREP student at the graduate level at the University of Amherst in Massachusetts.
Asjah began her research career working with Dr. Jermel Watkins, the Chair of the Biology Department at Hampton University. She then interned at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and later at Harvard Medical School where she worked with Dr. Marcia Haigis studying cancer metabolism. Currently at UMass, she is working in the lab of Dr. Joseph Jerry studying the effects of estrogen in breast cancer.
Her research interests at Duke are in translational medicine with an emphasis on cancer. Asjah loves the beach, baking, and hiking with her dog Bleu.
