On May 20th, our department teamed up with the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Medicine Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine to host an all-day Joint Student Research Symposium at the University Club in Durham. Jiaoti Huang, MD, PhD, and Russell Broaddus, MD, PhD, respective Pathology chairs of Duke and UNC, gave welcoming speeches detailing the benefits of the collaboration between the universities and reaffirming their strong commitment to continuing this event. Many of Duke Pathology’s graduate faculty were present to support the students, which was greatly appreciated.

In addition to faculty, postdoctoral researchers and staff from both universities attended. Students gave 90-second lightning talks, shared posters outlining their research, and engaged in scientific discussions. The symposium, which had approximately 100 attendees, was followed by refreshments and hors d’oeuvres.
“This was a wonderful opportunity for our department members to connect with peers from across the street and foster meaningful relationships,” said Grace Kerby Distinguished Professor of Pathology Soman Abraham, PhD. “We express our gratitude to the Chairs of both Departments for their generous support in funding this special gathering!”
