Dr. Thomas J. Cummings Lectures on Wyburn-Mason Syndrome at VZS Meeting

Professor of Pathology and Residency Program Director Thomas J. Cummings, MDlectured at the Verhoeff-Zimmerman Ophthalmic Pathology Society (VZS) meeting held April 4th-6th in Boston, MA, on-site at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.

He lectured on Wyburn-Mason syndrome. Also known as Bonnet-Dechaume-Blanc syndrome, it is a rare congenital disorder characterized by arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) typically found in the retina of the eye and the brain. 

The VZS was founded in 1946, and is one of the oldest subspecialty groups in Ophthalmology. It continues to advance the discipline of ophthalmic pathology. Cummings has been an active participating member since 2001, and hosted the meeting at Duke in 2019. At night he walked the streets of Dorchester and Roxbury in the steps of three generations of his ancestral roots.
