WHO Classification of Tumours of the Central Nervous System, 4th Edition

Two Duke neuropathologists, Drs. Darell Bigner and Roger McLendon, and Molecular Biologist, Dr. Hai Yan, of the Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center are authors of chapters in the newly released, 2016 revision of the 4th edition of the WHO Classification of Tumours of the Central Nervous System.  The book is a special revised edition of the 4th Edition of the World Health Organization series on histological and genetic typing of human tumors that now takes into account genetic changes that are considered to be definitional in newly described entities. This authoritative, concise reference book provides an international standard for oncologists and pathologists and will serve as an indispensable guide for use in the design of studies monitoring response to therapy and clinical outcome.  The book, prepared by 73 authors from 19 countries, contains more than 400 colour photographs, numerous X-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) images, charts, and more than 2,500 references.  Both Drs. McLendon and Bigner have been members of the WHO CNS Tumour Classification Committee and authors of chapters since the 1997 edition.
