Sunday Awarded Pilot Project Grant

Mary Sunday, MD PhD has recently been awarded a Pilot Project Grant entitled "Oxygen, Gastrin-Releasing Peptide (GRP), and Radiation-Induced Pulmonary Fibrosis" from the NIH Centers for Medical Countermeasures Against Radiation (CMCR), a part of the NIH RadCCORE Program. The goal of this investigation is to determine human relevance of prior mouse studies to prevent radiation injury to normal lung by using an established non-human primate model in collaboration with Dr. Mark Cline at Wake Forest University. Specifically, a single dose of anti-GRP monoclonal antibody given to mice 24 hours post-radiation (RT) abrogates RT-induced pulmonary fibrosis 3-4 months later.
