Sebastian Receives Promotion to Professor

Siby Sebastian PhD, DABMGG, DABCC

The Department of Pathology is pleased to announce that Siby Sebastian PhD, DABMGG, DABCC has been promoted to Professor of Pathology effective December 1, 2017.  He has completed American Board of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ABMGG) fellowship training in clinical molecular genetics from the Department of Medical Genetics in the Duke Department of Pediatrics and joined the Department of Pathology faculty as an Assistant Professor in 2002. Since then he played crucial leadership roles and made critical contributions that facilitated the remarkable growth of the Duke clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory that currently lists more than 50 clinical molecular diagnostics tests in the areas of molecular genetics, molecular pathology/oncology and infectious disease. He authored and/or co-authored about 50 research publications, invited reviews, book chapters, and served as ad-hoc reviewer for manuscripts submitted to several reputable journals in the field of molecular diagnostics. At the national level,  Dr. Sebastian has served in several elected leadership positions at the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP):  as the genetic subdivision representative to the nominating committee, clinical practice committee, the program committee, and as the Chair - Genetic subdivision. He also served as a member of Board of Directors and Executive Board of AMP. He was also elected to serve as a member of the Board of Directors of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC), and Chair, Molecular Diagnostics Board Exam of ABCC.
