Neuropathology Leadership Transition

Thomas J. Cummings, MD

Dr. Roger McLendon has announced that he will stop clinical service at the end of 2018 and focus on research activities. Please join me in thanking him for his contributions over a very long career at Duke.  He has been an outstanding clinical neuropathologist, educator, mentor, and national leader in brain tumor diagnosis and research.

We are very pleased that Thomas J. Cummings, MD has agreed to serve as Director of Neuropathology.  This change will go into effect January 1, 2019. In this new role, Dr. Cummings will oversee diagnostic neuropathology, ophthalmic pathology, muscle and nerve pathology, and autopsy neuropathology. Dr. Cummings is an internationally-renowned pathologist with expertise in areas of neuropathology, ophthalmic pathology, and bone and soft tissue pathology. He is also the director of our highly successful pathology residency program. We are very pleased to have such an accomplished colleague to take over an important area of clinical service.

Please join me in thanking Dr. McLendon and in congratulating Dr. Cummings for his new leadership roles.
