Dr. Claudia Jones, Vice Chair for Faculty

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Claudia Jones, MD as Vice Chair for Faculty.

In this new role, Dr. Jones will communicate with faculty about professional development opportunities, develop internal department-specific faculty development programs based on faculty needs, and participate in the SoM Faculty Affairs Steering Committee (FAST) led by Vice Dean for Faculty.

Dr. Jones also will manage faculty professionalism issues along with the Chair. She will work with Vice Dean for Faculty to ensure compliance with University rules and policies, and support consistency in the management of faculty professionalism concerns. She will communicate with faculty about expectations for professional behavior and avenues for reporting concerning behavior. She will work with committees that recruit, select, nominate or promote faculty to ensure best practices for considering diverse candidates. She will review departmental promotions periodically to assess for equitable practices.

Dr. Jones is Medical Director of Cytopathology and has been on the faculty in Duke Pathology since 1999. She was a Duke undergraduate and medical student, and completed Pathology residency at Vanderbilt University with a fellowship in Cytopathology at UCSF.
