Huang Awarded NIH UO1 Grant with UGA Collaborators

Jiaoti Huang, MD PhD

Jiaoti Huang, MD PhD has been awarded a new NIH UO1 grant for his collaboration with Dr. Lianchun Wang and Dr. Houjian Cai at the University of Georgia. The title of the project is “Heparan Sulfate in Prostate Cancer.”  Prostate cancer (PCa) is one of the most prevalent forms of malignancy and the second most common cause of cancer-related death in men. Uncovering novel mechanisms that control PCa tumorigenesis may advance our effort to develop more effective therapeutics to treat this life-threatening disease. Heparan sulfate (HS), a sulfated, linear polysaccharide, is an essential component of the cell microenvironment and plays an important role in cell-cell and cell-matrix interaction and signaling. The new grant will use both novel and established genetic, cellular, and biochemical approaches in conjunction with in vitro and in vivo mouse prostate cancer models.
